Terms of Service
These terms apply to this website (foodexpirytracker.com) and to the FreshScan: Food Expiration iPhone app. By using either, you agree to them.
1. Information, not food-safety advice
The guides, charts and tools on this site explain food date labels and general storage guidance drawn from public sources such as USDA and FDA. They are general information. They can't account for how a particular food was made, handled or stored, and they are not a substitute for your own judgment or for advice from a qualified professional.
The FreshScan app reads printed dates and reminds you about them. It does not, and cannot, judge whether food is safe to eat. Text recognition can misread a label, especially on damaged, curved, glossy or poorly lit packaging; always check the date shown on the confirmation card against the package.
Storage conditions, opened packaging and other factors affect whether food is safe. You are responsible for decisions about what to eat or discard. When in doubt, throw it out.
2. Using the website
You may use the site and its tools for personal, non-commercial purposes. Please don't attempt to disrupt the site or scrape it in a way that burdens it. Storage-time data from USDA's FoodKeeper is public domain; our text, design and code remain ours.
3. The FreshScan app
The app is licensed through Apple's App Store and is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Apple EULA”). Where these terms and the Apple EULA conflict for the app, the Apple EULA governs. You receive a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, and may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute it except as the law permits.
4. FreshScan Pro subscription
- The free version keeps up to 10 active items. FreshScan Pro adds unlimited items, adjustable reminder timing and impact insights.
- Pro is an auto-renewable subscription, monthly or yearly. The current price is shown in the app and on the App Store before you buy and may vary by country.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; renewal is charged within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; the current period stays active until it ends.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies.
- When a subscription ends, items you saved stay on your device; the free limit and free features apply again.
5. Your data
Everything you save in the app is stored on your device and is yours. See the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for backing up your device if you want to keep your data.
6. Disclaimer of warranties
The site and the app are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of date recognition or of any information on the site, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of this may not apply to you.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for illness, loss or damage arising from reliance on information on this site, on a date the app read, or on a reminder that was or wasn't delivered, nor for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for the app or subscription in the 12 months before the claim.
8. Changes
We may update or discontinue the site, the app or any feature, and may update these terms; the date below changes when we do. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
